Founder, Dr. Dorothy J. Nivens, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC
Dr. Nivens is known for her warmth, understanding, and helpful explanations that facilitate treatment. She is dedicated to individualized patient care. She uses her experienced clinical judgment to determine if a psychiatric disorder has a physiological or emotional basis. Dr. Nivens also educates patients and their families about mental health awareness, through assessments, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management. She welcomes ages 18 years and older for psychiatric evaluations and medication management.
Dr Nivens completed her Master of Science in Nursing, FNP, in 2012, from Kaplan University. She received her certification as a family nurse practitioner from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners in 2016.
During eight years of working in pain management as a nurse practitioner, she often found herself referring patients to a psychiatrist for mental health treatment. This is where her passion for specializing in mental health evolved. Dr. Nivens decided to further her education at the University of North Florida, earning a doctor of nursing practice in 2020 while becoming a psychiatric-mental health practitioner.
Throughout her career, Dr. Nivens has been passionate about helping her patients learn how to manage their disorders. She achieves success through a strong work ethic and appreciation for the value of education, learned while growing up. Her mother, a single mother of five, instilled excellent work ethics in her children. This background encouraged Dr. Nivens to become the first in her family to graduate from college.
